Elland Avenue

2018 | Box Hill, Melbourne, Australia | Multi-Residential

Uniquely positioned where suburb meets city, Elland Avenue consists of 101 apartments located within one of Melbourne’s emerging cultural precincts.

This location finds its distinct character in the surrounding rigidness of urban grids and softness of natural parklands. Our design hopes to find this same balance – the urban feel of apartment living and the homely nature found in your more typical, residential development.

Our response to the site and program at hand is deliberately uncomplicated, allowing for simple and traditionally identifiable spaces. The design and materiality’s simplicity ensures the complexity of a building of this scale does not affect the tranquillity of the spaces that people retreat to.

Visually, the project takes inspiration from the neoplastic works of Piet Mondrian – our goal, to find elegance in simplicity. We interpreted the flat primary colours used in his paintings with warmer tones, bringing organic elements into a more orthogonal structure.
